Recently Aditya Roy, a young wildlife photographer, visited Buxa, Samsing and Gorumara with GreenCamp.in Tourism Team. He wants to share his experience and some photographs of the trip with the readers of GreenCamp.in.
I am happy to share the photographs from BUXA and GORUMARA wildlife sanctuaries. I recently visited both of these sanctuaries. Both BUXA and GORUMARA are located I the state of West-Bengal, India. Buxa is a tiger reserve and Gorumara is famous for Indian Bison and One Horned Rhino. A friend of mine Mr. Kaushik Singha Roy (Tourism Coordinator, GreenCamp.in) planned a wonderful itinerary and also arranged for the stay and vehicles at Buxa for 2nights and three days.We departed for Alipurduar junction, the nearest railway station from Buxa, on 8th night via Kanchankanya express and reached there at 11am on 9th. A Tata Specio took us to our hotel. It was a nice place with the new concept of Home Tourism. Mr. Thapa the owner of the hotel was very nice person and greatly experienced in wildlife. The hospitality and food that he served will be unforgettable. We roamed in the forest of Buxa for three days. A friend of mine and very senior scientist in the field of Vulture Conservation, Dr. Sachin Ranade (Director Buxa Vulture breeding center), even took us to the core areas of the forest where other tourists are not allowed. But I guess we were not lucky enough. In these many days we did not even sight a single mammal. People told their experiences of elephants getting into their houses and farms but unfortunately we dint even got a glimpse of wild elephant at Buxa. But and that’s a big but the bird-life and the insect and butterfly fauna was really a great feast to enjoy. On 11th noon we departed for Malbazar our next stay and visited the leopard safari one the way. We were able to see a leopard here. On 11th night we all were exhausted and we slept like hell. On 2nd morning we first departed for Samsing. It’s a hilly area and the drive to Samsing is a wonderful experience. In the afternoon we visited Gorumara. We were lucky enough to sight a family of wild elephants grazing in the tall elephant grass. But we din saw the Rhino. So we decided to come for the early 6am safari on next day. But unfortunately we dint sight any Rhino or Bison in this trip also. Though we were not able to sight much wild animals, it was a great trip. We saw many tiny marvels of nature, got a wonderful feel of forest and enjoyed the hospitality by Mr. Thapa at Buxa. I am sharing few of the photographs. All the butterflies and insects are unidentified by me as I am not good in butterfly identification. Please do drop in your comments and also the name of species if you know.
